What Is LASIK?

Reshaping the Cornea

In LASIK, a thin flap is created on the surface of the cornea, and the cornea is reshaped with a laser to correct the refractive error. In the No-Touch (transPRK) method, correction is done with a contact-free laser without creating a flap; it's preferred for thin corneas.

The procedure takes a few minutes per eye and is painless with drop anesthesia. Suitability is determined with a detailed scan based on corneal thickness and the degree of your prescription.

  • Detailed eye scan and suitability test
  • Painless procedure lasting only minutes
  • Fast recovery, clear vision in a short time
  • State-of-the-art equipment, expert doctors

What to know before you decide.

A Detailed Guide to LASIK / No-Touch Laser

Is LASIK completely permanent?

The reshaping LASIK applies to the cornea is permanent; the correction cannot be reversed. Rarely, mild regression can occur and be corrected with a touch-up session. Presbyopia (near vision), which develops after age 40, is a natural process independent of LASIK.

Which prescriptions can LASIK treat?

Cases within these ranges are treatable: -1.00 to -10.00 D for myopia (nearsightedness); +1.00 to +4.00 D for hyperopia; and ±0.50 to ±5.00 D for astigmatism. Corneal thickness is an additional deciding factor for each case.

"Our goal is not a 'done' look, but a natural, balanced and lasting result that is truly yours."

Is LASIK possible if I have a thin cornea?

When corneal thickness is 500 microns or below, No-Touch (Trans-PRK) or LASEK is recommended instead of LASIK. These methods reshape the surface without needing a corneal flap and are safe alternatives for thin corneas.

Your Questions

Vision improves within hours after LASIK; clear vision is achieved within 24–48 hours. Eye drops are needed for about 1 week, along with avoiding contact from foreign objects. A check-up is done in week 1 and a re-assessment in month 1.

Modern wavefront-guided LASIK has significantly reduced halo and night vision problems. Mild night glare in the first 1–3 months is normal; in the vast majority, it disappears by month 3. Pupil size and the amount of aberration affect this risk and are evaluated in the pre-examination.

In people who have had LASIK, intraocular pressure measurements must be interpreted differently; this information should be shared with your ophthalmologist during glaucoma monitoring. If cataract surgery is needed, your LASIK history is taken into account in the lens calculations.

Yes. Simultaneous bilateral LASIK is the standard practice worldwide; it's a safe choice that improves patient comfort.

The lower limit is 18 years (21 at some clinics); the prescription must be stable. There's no upper age limit; however, cataracts or intraocular changes that develop with age can affect the treatment plan.

It varies by the platform used (WaveLight, Schwind), whether wavefront analysis is included, and the check-up package. For both eyes, the cost in Istanbul is 40–60% below European prices; all check-ups and eye drops are included in the package.

LASIK success doesn't change with age; however, in patients 40+, the need for reading glasses for near vision may persist. Monovision LASIK (one eye for near, the other for far) can reduce this need, but it requires an adaptation period.
