A Lasting End to Blurry Vision

What Is a Cataract?

Renewing the Natural Lens

With age, the eye's lens becomes cloudy; colors fade, and night vision and reading become difficult. In cataract surgery, this lens is removed with an ultrasonic method (phaco) and replaced with a clear artificial lens.

The procedure takes 15–20 minutes and is painless with drop anesthesia. If desired, a smart (multifocal) lens can be fitted to both treat the cataract and reduce the need for glasses.

  • Detailed eye scan and suitability test
  • Painless procedure lasting only minutes
  • Fast recovery, clear vision in a short time
  • State-of-the-art equipment, expert doctors

What to know before you decide.

A Detailed Guide to Cataract Surgery

When should cataract surgery be done?

There's no medically urgent threshold for a cataract; however, when the quality of your vision begins to limit daily activities (driving, reading, work), it's time to intervene. Leaving it too late (a hard cataract) makes surgery more difficult; the risk is lower in the early stage.

Should both eyes be done at the same time or separately?

Standard practice: the eyes are done on separate days, 1–2 weeks apart. This approach means that if a complication occurs in one eye, it doesn't affect the other, and the healing of the first eye serves as a reference for planning the second. In highly selected cases, same-day bilateral surgery is possible.

"Our goal is not a 'done' look, but a natural, balanced and lasting result that is truly yours."

What is a premium lens (premium IOL), and how does it differ from a standard lens?

A standard monofocal lens corrects only one distance (usually far vision); glasses may still be needed. Premium multifocal or extended depth of focus (EDOF) lenses cover near, intermediate, and far distances with a single lens. Toric lenses also correct astigmatism.

With the modern phacoemulsification technique, the complication rate is under 1%. Possible adverse events include intraocular infection (endophthalmitis, under 1/1000), posterior capsule rupture, or increased intraocular pressure. With an experienced eye surgeon at an accredited facility, the risk is minimized.

Antibiotic + anti-inflammatory drops are usually used for 4–6 weeks. Following the drop schedule directly affects the quality of healing; our coordinator prepares a reminder list.

A Smart Lens (ICL/EVO) is a myopia-correction implant placed in eyes without cataracts. A cataract lens (IOL) is an implant that replaces the clouded natural lens and is used to treat the cataract. They are different implants for different indications.

Vision starts improving on the day of surgery; clear vision is achieved within 24–48 hours. You can drive within 1 week. Swimming and heavy exercise are postponed for 4 weeks. Final vision quality is assessed at 4–6 weeks.

Yes. Because local anesthesia (eye drops + sedation) is used instead of general anesthesia, the load on the heart and lungs is minimal. Patients over 80–90 are also operated on successfully. Overall health status is evaluated by our team.

Cataract surgery with a standard monofocal lens is done at 40–50% below the price in European capitals. The difference is significant for packages with premium multifocal or toric lenses too; all check-ups are included in the package.

Short-haul flights are usually fine from week 1, and long-haul flights from week 2. Changes in eye pressure won't be an issue as long as you follow the eye-drop schedule. Don't travel without getting discharge approval.
